Relay Run on Day of Giving

On April 24 we will have the 2019 Purdue Day of Giving. Last year, the engineering student organization received the most number of support (even more than the Band!) Thank you! During the appreciation dinner, students suggested to me an idea of running a relay marathon to celebrate Purdue 150th. With the help of development team and student leaders, we have indeed arranged the following: 10 Boilermakers (students, staff, faculty, alumni) will run a relay totaling 20.19 miles that loop around some of the engineering buildings on campus. If this team finish the relay in 201.9 minutes, we hope many of you would consider gifting $20.19 to a favorite engineering student group of yours. The slowest runner will be myself, but the fast teammates will include, among others,

Dominique Oden, CE (Purdue Women’s Basketball team)
Leony Boudreau, BME (Purdue Women’s Basketball team)
Aaron Banks, IE (Purdue Football team, Purdue Student Government President)
Daniel Romary, BME (Purdue University Student Trustee)
And Max Downham, who received BS in ChE from Purdue in 1958!

If you would like to pledge a support of any amount $10 or more (although our favorite is $20.19), conditioned on our team finishing on time on April 24, please simply email me your name, affiliation (e.g., undergraduate in ME) and pledge amount (and the engineering student group if you have a specific one to support) to: Deanofengineering@purdue.edu

School/College Leadership Update

Lastly in this month’s message, we are delighted to report that, starting May 1, Professor Dimitrios Peroulis will become the Michael and Katherine Birck Head of School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as the international search process concluded last week by the capable search committee. Also starting May 1, Professor Pedro Irazoqui will become the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation (and thank you Professor Melba Crawford for your outstanding service over the past 5+ years as Associate Dean), and Global Engineering (lead by Professor George Chiu) will become part of the Office of Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education (lead by Professor Eckhard Groll). Starting July 1, Professor Dana Weinstein will become the Associate Dean of Graduate Education.

The entire team of faculty, staff, students and alumni will continue to move Purdue Engineering College forward, as our academic peer and industry reputation continues to rise. Thank you all, and Boiler Up!
