Prof. Jafvert, PhD alumni receive EPA award for co-authored paper

Professor Chad Jafvert, along with three co-authors including two PhD alumni, were awarded a 2015 Scientific and Technological Achievement Award (Honorable Mention) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for authorship of a paper entitled: "Photoreactivity of Unfunctionalized Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes Involving Hydroxyl Radical: Chiral dependency and Surface Coating Effect," published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology.

Professor Chad Jafvert, along with three co-authors including two PhD alumni, were awarded a 2015 Scientific and Technological Achievement Award (Honorable Mention) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for authorship of a paper entitled: "Photoreactivity of Unfunctionalized Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes Involving Hydroxyl Radical: Chiral dependency and Surface Coating Effect," published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology (Vol 48, pp. 3875-3882, 2014).

The paper qualified for the award because one of the co-authors, Dr. Richard G. Zepp, is an EPA employee,  The two other co-authors, Somayeh Beigzadehmilani and first author Wen-Che Hou, both received their Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University (in May 2015 and December 2009, respectively) under the guidance of Dr. Jafvert in the School of Civil Engineering.

At the time the paper was written, Somayeh was a Ph.D. student at Purdue. Since graduation she is working for CES Consultants, Inc. in Miami, FL.

Also at the time the paper was written, Wen-Che was a postdoctoral associate working towards his second post-doc with Dr. Richard Zepp at the National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL) in Athens, GA.  Wen-Che is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at National Cheng Kung University, Tainan City, Taiwan.
