Iason Konstantzos (Ph.D. ’16) started as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on Aug. 13, 2018.

Iason was a PhD student in the Architectural Engineering emphasis area of CE and graduated in December 2016. His Ph.D. Thesis was entitled “A Human-centered approach for the design of perimeter office spaces based on visual environment criteria”. From January 2017-June 2018 he was a post-doctoral fellow in the School of Civil Engineering and in the Center for High Performance Buildings at Purdue.

During his Ph.D. and post-doc terms, Iason was advised by Prof. Thanos Tzempelikos.

Iason studied new methods for quantifying visual comfort in perimeter building zones, as well as human interaction with lighting systems and control interfaces. He estimated the effects of optical properties of shading devices on glare; analyzed the impact of dynamic shading on visual comfort; conducted experimental studies with human subjects and developed a new index for view clarity through windows and new glare metrics for spaces with roller shades under the presence of sunlight; and developed a new web tool for assessing the visual performance of perimeter offices. He has been collaborating with industry partners and his work helped to transform the way daylight controls are used in modern offices.

Iason won a best paper award at the 3rd International High Performance Buildings Conference in 2014 and the prestigious ASHRAE Grant-in-Aid Award in 2015.
